Love technology!

Thanks to my love, I will be the proud owner of this when the FedEx man delivers it tomorrow!!! He thought it up on his own but it's just perfect timing since I've been needing a little extra motivation in the running department. Once I got to the point where I could run 3 miles outside, I got bored and just gave up. I think being able to accurately track my pace, heart rate, distance, etc. will make running fun again, yay!! Who thought I'd call running fun?

I'll still need my ipod so hopefully that's not too many gadgets for my arm and wrist! I could have never starting running in the first place if it wasn't for the c25k ipod app!

Do you utilize technology in your workouts??

If The Shoe Fits

My mom recently bought a pair of shoes and was contemplating returning them because they are a little loose in the heel area, but fit fine everywhere else. Well, the latest pair of shoes I bought had the same problem, but the gal at the shoe store showed me a lacing trick to make the heel a little more snug.

I'll let the pictures below show you how the lacing works:

There you have it! This worked perfectly for my shoe/feet, so hopefully it'll work for you, too!

Pan-Fried Chicken Parm

jesstagirl meets Hungry Girl...a review

I LOVE Chicken Parmesan and if I wasn't so concerned with eating healthy, I would pick chicken Parmesan any time I dined out at an Italian restaurant. The problem is that it's typically heavily breaded and then covered in delectable, gooey, fatty cheese.

I'm cooking for one these days, because my husband is deployed, so I got this recipe from Hungry Girl's latest book 1-2-3, which is supposedly a collection of easy, delicious, and guilt-free recipes. Ha. I'll be the judge of that!

Prep Time: This only took less than 10 minutes to make! Although I'll admit I used regular breadcrumbs and not Fiber One (I've tried Fiber One as a breading before and I can never have it taste good). All I had to do was pound the chicken—I used a rolling pin—and season my breadcrumbs and tomato sauce. (I also added 2 oz pasta to go along side the chicken.)

Cook Time: Easy peasy! I left the chicken on the skillet for about four minutes on each side and it looked perfectly brown. The only problem was that the chicken wasn't cooked all the way through, so I had to leave it on longer. Next time I'll make sure the chicken is little thinner. I thought I had shredded mozzarella, but I didn't so I used string cheese, which worked just fine.

Time to Eat: DELICIOUS! I can't wait to make this again—I never knew chicken parmigiana could be so easy to make without being terrible for you. I need to figure out the WW points for using real breadcrumbs instead of Fiber One, but I would guess it would only bump it up a point or two, and next time I'm considering adding flax seed to the breadcrumbs for some extra fiber.

Next up? I'm going to make her "Tremendous Top-shelf Turkey Burger," so stay tuned!

Taking a Cue From Dog Food

I know what you're thinking, "Why is she talking about dog food on this blog." Well, stick around, because I'm also going to talk about Las Vegas and England, too.

Have you ever noticed that casinos in Las Vegas don't have any windows or clocks gracing their walls? It's because they want you to keep playing and playing and playing without getting distracted by what time it is.

And speaking of time, have you ever noticed that when you're on a trip—especially where there's been a time change—you tend to lose track of time and only eat when your body is telling you that it needs to refuel? For example, when I was traveling around England last year, my body had no idea what time it was, thanks to the seven hour difference, so I was hungry at really strange hours of the day.

My point is this: When traveling out of time zones, people tend to eat when they're hungry opposed to when it's "time to eat," because our bodies tell us when we're hungry.  Wouldn't it be great if we focused on only eating when we were hungry instead of at specific times of the day?

So what does this have to do with dog food?

It's the same principle, really. I fed my dog a little extra for dinner last night on accident and instead of eating everything in her bowl at one sitting, she left exactly the extra food I gave her. It got me thinking about our bodies and how we should "listen" to our hunger signals more often rather than the hands on our watch.

This week I'm going to try listening to my body and eating only when I'm hungry, not because it's lunch or dinner time.

Swimsuit Season

So I ordered this yesterday (with a slighty different bottom) in hopes it will keep me motivated! It was not cheap so I'm going to want to actually wear it! Even more expensive because I ordered it last night and today they came out with a free shipping code, boo!

And completely unrelated, one of my goals is to get more sleep which means getting to bed at a decent hour. This is so hard most nights. How much sleep do you girls get each night? Do you do anything to help you fall asleep at night? I think if I could get up early enough to hit the gym before work my evenings would be freed up, and I could probably be sleeping by 11! I might try it this week...

Meal/workout planning-Andi

When I do my best with eating healthy, it's because I plan my meals. When I start slacking on that is when I start slacking on eating healthy and going with the easiest version.
It also helps me cut down on food costs since I stick with the list of what I want.

This is similar to what I do, but mine's prettier and I type it up.
I try to make sure to use anything I've left from the week before in my next week's planning. I also make sure I have a ton of healthy snacks. I am the sort of person who is hungry every 2-3 hours, so snacks are a must. I'd eat ginormous meals all the time if I didn't.
When I do my best, I plan my meals and make sure I'm getting in enough protein, vegetables, fruits and complex carbs as well as vitamins and minerals, but that takes a lot of time if you do it as meticulously as I do.
But just focusing on getting in the right servings of colorful vegetables, enough protein sources and enough carbs tends to be enough to make me eat healthier.

I also do running/workout plans. I can't find a picture of what exactly I do, but I make it in a log format, with what I'm supposed to do and what I actually do and how I felt that day during the workout. If I don't get to it, I don't make a big deal of it, but I try to get at least the logging of the miles/times in.
When I'm done with Washington, I'll start posting my meal plans and running plans.
